Laily Begum (1950-2008) or Laily Apa ( elder sister) as she was more popularly known started working for ActionAid since 1984. at that time ActionAid was a very small organization.. Although she was a support staff, everyone used to treat her as a guardian. She was one of the oldest staff who started ActionAid's life with a small office situated at Shyamoly. She was always polite open minded and hard-working. She was a family member of ActionAid, always she owned it with her heart and mind. Even when she was sick and ailing she wanted to know how ActionAid Bangladesh going on and wanted to come to the office.. Due to her sickness she took retirement just six months back.  . Laily apa (after ailing for a long time) passed away on the 10th of April 2008 from old age complications. ActionAid Bangladesh has lost a dedicated, always smiling and hard working worker who never said no and always tried to get the work done in the best possible way. Her son Shakil I s also a staff at ActionAid and she has left behind children, grand children, a host of relatives and other family and staff of ActionAid to mourn her passing.
