Many social development concepts used in China have been adopted from
western studies and research. They are often misunderstood and this
makes it impossible to adapt them successfully to Chinese environment
and to combine them effectively with more traditional approaches. To
address this problem ActionAid China in cooperation with the Community
Development Center at the Yunnan Social Studies Institute have
published a glossary Fighting
poverty in China: a glossary of key terms and concepts.
This glossary aims to explain the main social development terms and
concepts as well as facilitate their adaptation to Chinese conditions.
It was written to serve as a reference book to Chinese development
practitioners, social development students and government officials
working in poverty alleviation.
Researchers and practitioners who contributed to this book are
affiliated with the following institutions: ActionAid China, Community
Development Center at the Yunnan Social Studies Institute, Rural
Development Center at Yunnan University, Rural Economy Research Center
at the Sichuan Social Studies Institute, Center for Studies on
Environmental Protection and Community Development at Guizhou Normal
University.
