Development Areas in Pakistan

Pakistan, a country of 140 million people, has among the world's lowest human development indicators. Its people continue their daily struggles in face of extreme poverty and marginalization lack of education, employment and basic amenities, ill health, inequitable gendered relations and extremely low social sector spending by the State. Moreso, people are denied their fundamental freedoms, choices and spaces.

ActionAid believes that inequality in power and resources and social injustice is the major cause of poverty and denial of fundamental rights. Therefore, our goal is to work for an equitable sharing of power and resources within families, communities, the larger society, nationally and across border. We believe no intervention would be effective unless the hierarchical system that generates, reinforces and ensures poverty is challenged.

We see poverty as the denial of basic and fundamental rights of people; and see marginalization as the process or result of a conscious effort to push individuals or groups towards the edges of society by a stronger force through exploitation, deprivation, oppression, exclusion, polarization and discrimination.
