Development Area Loralai was established at the end of 2001 (a self-implemented DA). It comprises union councils China Alizai, Tora Thana and Mekhtar and is populated with over 20,000 individuals.

The focus of this DA is on capacitating of councilors and CBOs to promote social structures, responsive and accountable state institutions and build voice of poor and marginalized in the decision making.

The main interventions are:

• Forming and capacity building of Community Councils and linking them with government to assert their rights;
• Establishing resource centers for meetings, seminars, trainings, youth activities and community information system;
• Training government school teachers in joyful learning; obtaining/establishing primary schools;
• Capacity building of local councilors in planning & implementation of projects;
• Forming youth groups for sports, culture and discussions;
• Telecasting a radio program on social issues;
• Campaigning awareness related to policies on NRM, supporting government in animal health and supporting community to acquire small dams;
• Developing community links with Local Government, Agriculture Department, Livestock, Irrigation, Public Health Engineering, Health Dept, TVO and Local NGOs (LAFAM, PIDS, and WESS)
