Teacher's Assembly

Education is widely recognized a basic human right and a route to eradicate poverty from the earth. It is a right of every child which should be provided by the government but this is unfortunate with us that we do not make policies for promoting human right among the respective citizen of the country even we do not look after the rights of those persons, teachers, who are affiliated with the education department. Teachers are teaching in miserable conditions; they do not have access to basic human rights as a human being. They are lacking proper educational trainings where they can learn the pedagogy so that they can provide quality education to the future generations. The worse situation is prevailing in Pakistan for them. Unions are banned in some provinces of the country; they do not have any other platform where they can raise their voices for their rights. Having rights based approach; ActionAid-Pakistan made its work plan to advocate teacher's as agents of change in lobbying for equal access and rights of girls and boys to educate and to bring progressive changes in the education system/curricula.

ActionAid held teachers assemblies in 15 DAs in all over the country where teachers discussed/raised their issues and made government accountable to them for lessen their miseries so that they could become an agent of true and progressive change in the society.

  • The detailed report of every DA is attached with the link for further information.

The objectives of the Teacher's Assembly are:

To discuss their issue of job security and rights of workers
To share the idea of professional councils
To chat about how to make Provincial Institutes of Teachers Education (PITEs) effective center to train them on child psychology, child emotional development and other human rights values
Insist that quality education can only be achieved with qualified teachers who have received high level initial training, have access to adequate in-service training and have at their disposal pedagogical means to enable them to act as professional in education
To provide a platform to share their knowledge among themselves
To include human rights and child rights subject in the curriculum
Oblige government to take seriously their commitments to ensure equal and equal rights for women and to ensure their empowerment in the education setting, in decision making and in the workplace
Take a pledge to work with a high degree of professionalism to assure quality education for all children in the country
Appeal for the voices of teachers and their unions to be heard in the debate on quality education, as full professional partners in decision making processes and for constructive social dialogue practices to be developed in every nation and at all levels
Have oversight of school budgets and be able to make recommendations about budget allocations (though not relating to salaries).
Be facilitated to develop district and national level links.
