Solidarity Walk on International Hunger Day in Kachho

The people of Kachho to show their solidarity with international campaign to eradicate poverty participated in a walk to commemorate International Hunger day (May 21) the walk was organized by ActionAid International Pakistan (AAIPk) in collaboration with Village Shadabad Welfare Organization (VSA).

 

The Walk was led by Ms. Hina Shahid (Program Officer, AAIPk Karachi), Ms. Hina Maryam (VSA) and Ms. Shahnaz Qazi (VSA), other walk participants included 70 women (Community women and teachers), 48 girls (including youth group girls) and 35 boys who marched from village Dodo Birhmani to Pir Bux Lashari (1.5 Km).

 

Community women and other participants lifted play cards and banners with slogans targeting state governments and world leaders, UNO, WTO and G8 countries etc.They demanded these powerful bodies to provide food to more than 80 Billion people in the world who are suffering due to hunger and thirst and to provide relief from Hunger and Poverty to 70% world population engaged in labor and producing grain.

 

Participants demanded National Governments, world leaders, international funding agencies and United Nations to eradicate poverty and provide basic rights of employment, education, health, food and water to the people of Kachho and to the people in the world at large.

 

While speaking on the occasion Hina Shahid (Program Officer AAIPk Karachi Office) said that today Kachho is one of the most marginalized and vulnerable area of the country and through this walk the people of Kachho drew the attention of Head of the states towards the problems of people of Kachho. Kachho is a place where people are seeking single sip of safe drinking water, food to kill their hunger, education for their children and health, which are basic human rights of people and we all demand the National Government to provide us these basic rights.

 

 Hina Maryam (Education Promoter VSA) said that we all walk participants on this occasion, question the National Government why many people die in the country due to hunger and thrust? She further added that Government is responsible for such killings as they fail to formulate and implement policies which ensure the abolition of  hunger and food shortage in the country, she demanded Government to design such policies which ensure to address food shortage and provide employment to eradicate poverty and  hunger.
