Peace is a long cherished goal of humanity, simply because the dividends of peace are ample. Generally the conflict prone thinking and ideologies serve a few interest groups and masses have to pay for it. For example, a large defense budget in Pakistan, just to maintain a standoff with India, consumes a major chunk of the revenues; leaving very little for the social expenditure.
In addition, the dominance of the military institution in social-political affairs has made the decision-makers vulnerable and subservient to the international economic forces. Overall, the trends of militarization in the society have given rise to intolerances and disharmony among the various groups of people. As a result, the efforts for progress, development and thus poverty-reduction don?t materialize. To mitigate these circumstances ActionAid Pakistan works for promotion of peace in Pakistan, in the South Asian region and in the world.
