The political instability took aside the subject of earthquake affected people's rehabilitation and created unreliable security situation all over the country. Battgram Office was closed and the field activities were postponed for a couple of weeks due to critical law and order situation in the area.

In terms of the immediate and strategic needs of the affected communities, ActionAid ERP is supporting the conversion of prefabricated shelters into permanent shelters to protect the devastated communities from sizzling summer and monsoon. As a result in Battgram, Bagh and Muzaffarabad; assessment for improvement of over 500 shelters has been completed.

The community centers were constructed as hubs and training centers for women. In this connection, the extension of five community centers in Bagh and Muzaffarabad have been completed while the construction of remaining seven community centers is in process and soon will be completed in all four field offices.

The 2005 earth quake destroyed or diverted water supply schemes where as the recent monsoon rises the threat of water born diseases. In this regard, safe water supply has been the key focus area during the last month. In all four field offices, work on water supply scheme has been started with the help of community. To add with, total forty four (44) hand pumps have been installed in Mansehra and Battgram so far.

To address to the psycho social need of the earthquake affected children and students, Muzaffarabad and Bagh field offices arranged recreational visits of Government boys and girls primary schools.

Nearly two years on of the devastated earth quake, few schools have been rebuilt in the earthquake areas. In this regard, ERP started rebuilding community model schools in Mansehra, Battgram and Muzaffarabad. To add to this, the field offices completed assessment to provide necessary furniture to schools. In Muzaffarabad, the field team distributed furniture and stationary in 3 schools.

Apart from the above mentioned activities, keeping in view the high ratio of female in the quake hit zone, the training and capacity building in livelihood sector has been continued especially for  women. The trainings are necessary in order to generate household income of the communities at grass root level. In Mansehra, fifteen women completed tailoring course in vocational center where as Shamdhara Women Organization organized Meena Bazaar for local women. The event encouraged women to participate actively in such trainings as the organization earned over two thousands rupees by selling the stitched cloths. In Bagh, since the sewing machines were not sufficient in vocational training centers, the field office provided three more sewing machines to all vocational/community centers.

All field staff regularly meets on weekly basis to reflect and plain jointly. Similarly the health staff also meets regularly on weekly basis to discuss issues pertaining in the health sector. Field office Mansehra has been regularly participating in the DRR coordination meetings.

In Bagh, a dialogue was arranged on "Importance of disaster preparedness and the role of stakeholders" where different NGOs, EVRM and CBOs members participated. Moreover, the network of organizations was formed.

Emerging Issues:

  • The religious groups are regularly creating regular friction for the INGOs and NGOs and particularly after the event of Red Mosque it has aggravated. In this regard NGOs are regularly in touch with the district and local government and the local communities to handle the situation.
  • The ongoing Monsoon has affected the progress of various activities at the field level.
  • Delay in the revision of the Master Plan of Bagh has left the populace in trouble as ERRA is not permitting them for reconstruction.
