ActionAid Tanzania works in partnership with local people and local communities. We believe that working alongside them, we can more effectively tackle the causes as well as the symptoms of poverty. Through joint action, the poor and marginalized are empowered to voice their own concerns and participate in poverty eradication interventions. We believe that everyone has the right to live a life of dignity and so we work to secure those rights in rural and impoversished areas of Tanzania. We focus our work in the areas of education, agriculture and food security and HIV/AIDS.

ActionAid Tanzania sees education as a key tool in the fight against poverty. This is why much of our work is focussed on improving access for rural communities to basic primary education. Many children simply cannot walk the long distances to school and violence against girls travelling to school is a real issue. Working alongside both communities and government, ActionAid Tanzania has been able to successfully introduce appropriate and effective non-formal education facilities which help to overcome some of these obstacles. We believe that all children have the right to basic education.

Over 80% of Tanzanians rely on agricultural activity to survive. Action Aid Tanznia works with the poor and other development actors in working to achieve sustainable production, marketing, and distribution of agricultural produce to ensure food security.
