New research released today reveals the true cost of a free education. Despite the constitution guaranteeing free school education for every child this basic right is denied to poor families from marginalized groups. A coalition of local organizations including ActionAid Thailand launched ground breaking data; over one million children in Thailand have no access basic to schooling.

Additional fees levied by school result in poorer families unable to meet these costs. Cost such as school uniforms, transportation, computer facilities.

ActionAid Thailand is presenting this research on Wednesday 26, July 2006 at 09.00hrs – 15.00hrs at Human Rights Commission at the room number 101, first floor located on HuaChang Bridge near Siam Discovery Department store.

There will be introduced by Rachanee Thongchai, the director of children village school and Sangwan Maneewan, YMCAs officer in Payao Province.
