Asia Media Forum announces Journalism Fellowships on human rights
PRESS RELEASE - 5 Oct 2006
Asia Media Forum (AMF), a network of journalists from across Asia, announces Journalism Fellowships for self-motivated working journalists who aspire to improve their coverage of human rights more deeply. The closing date for submission of applications is October 25, 2006.
The fellowship provides to 20 middle career (below 40 years) print and electronic media journalists, both from their respective mainstream and regional media, an opportunity to work in the field in various Asian countries on certain themes relating to human rights such as Womens Rights, Right to Education, Right to Food, Right to Human Security in Conflict and Emergencies (especially Tsunami related issues), Right to Life and Dignity in the Face of HIV and AIDS and Right to Just and Democratic Governance.
The selected fellows under AMF Journalism Fellowship will be sent to a country in South Asia or South East Asia to work in the field with the poor and marginalized communities so that they can report on the rights of these communities during their two weeks stay in these countries. The US $ 2,000 fellowship covers incidentals, travel expenses and stipend. Local hospitality will be provided by AMFs partner organizations in the respective countries. The fellows would contribute stories and videos based on the field work to their respected media organizations as well as AMF website.
Aspiring journalists across gender, national and respective regional media need to get themselves registered as member of Asia Media Forum by submitting membership form available on the Asia Media Forum website: www.asiamediaforum.org in the Members Area. Based on merit, a Selection Jury comprising senior media/communications persons from Asia will select 20 journalists after thoroughly assessing their previous expertise and new sample text and video stories/work. The selected candidates will be notified on the AMF web and informed individually.
