1. WORKING CONTEXT

Founded in the United Kingdom in 1972, ActionAid International (AAI) is a secular and non political organisation working with over nine million of the poorest people majority of them living in the developing world in 47 countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. It is committed to improving the quality of life of the poorest and the most excluded people so that they can live a life of dignity.

Working towards this direction, since 1989, ActionAid International Vietnam (AAV) has been operating in nineteen provinces in mountainous and remote regions across Vietnam. AAV works in partnership with local partners in provinces and district levels.

2. JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY

Establishes and implements different communication channels to advocate and disseminate outreach information to various target audiences to ensure that ActionAids vision and missions are widely perceived

Makes decision within approved budget

Requires support from other departments in information provision

5. MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Key responsibilities / accountabilities

Key performance indicators

1.       Develops and implements external communication strategy, policy, guidelines and plan

§         External communication strategy, policy and guidelines are in line with CSP and AAIs strategy and policy

§         Guidelines are easy to understand and follow

§         External communication plan with detailed activities is annually developed as per approved budget and communication goals

§         Theme Coordinators and Programme Manager are consulted with to integrate and reflect AAVs activities in various communication channels

2.       Is responsible for the coordination of campaign activities

§         Campaign plan is produced annually and updated periodically

§         Coordination of campaigns with other functions/departments is carried out

3.       Produces AAVs publications

§         AAVs publications are consistent in terms of image and appearance following communication guidelines of AAI

§         Marketing materials (brochures, promotional items, annual report, film, CS report...) are produced to meet AAVs communication strategy

4.       Builds media/public relations

§         AAVs image and branding is marketed via means of communication

§         Necessary information is provided to targeted audiences

§         AAV receives support from policy makers, communities and media

§         AAV is mentioned on media hits once a month at least

§         Events are well organised to meet the objectives and to provide support for advocacy

§         Media network activities are implemented in accordance with the work plan.

§         Press trips are well organised

5.       Participates in relevant communication networks

§         Professional relationships with various agencies (donors, NGOs, media, governmental bodies, …) are established and fostered to advocate and engage them to participate in AAVs campaigns, researches and thematic activities, and to strengthen AAVs image and strategic partnerships

§         Good relationship is set up and maintained with the aim of information sharing and updating

§         Common strength and support are mobilised

6.       Supports and builds capacity for staff and partners in public relations and campaign

§         Partners communication events are well organised

§         At least one training on communication and campaigning for AAVs staff and partners is conducted annually

7.       Manages crisis and risk related to communication

§         Press-related risk is considerably forecasted and measured in advance

§         Problems related to communication are properly solved

8.       Others

§         Key functional documents are translated

§         Other tasks as assigned by line manager are well performed

6. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education

§         University degree in Communications and Journalism or any relevant field

 

Work experience

§         At least 3 years relevant working experience

§         Working experience with NGOs is preferable

Technical knowledge/skills

§         Communication/Media

§         Website and database management

§         Journalism skill

Language

§         Advanced level of English
